Established in 2004, Give A Smile is the Australian Society of Orthodontist’s charitable arm. Participating ASO members volunteer to treat patients from public orthodontic waiting lists in Australia on a pro-bono basis. Currently approximately 60 percent of ASO members participate in this initiative and more than 1,500 patients have received treatment under the program to date. Give A Smile has enabled hundreds of children in lower income families to access orthodontic treatments that would otherwise have been out of reach, saving the public health system an estimated $10 million in the process. The commitment of the participating practitioners has transformed and empowered children, giving them the confidence to live their best lives.
