Youth Homelessness Matters Day

Over 43,000 children and young people under the age of 25 presented alone to a homelessness service in 2023–24. Of these young people, almost half experienced mental ill-health and over one third experienced domestic and family violence. The majority of these young people were in need of short- or long-term accommodation and most were turned away due to a lack of capacity.

Youth Homelessness Matters Day (YHMD) is a national day that was conceived in 1990 to raise awareness and public discussion about child and youth homelessness. It is held every year on the third Wednesday of April.

Join CHP on YHMD to launch Parity’s youth edition!

Speaking of Youth Homelessness Matters Day, CHP is hosting a fantastic free online event next Wednesday, from 12:30 – 1:30! Join us for an amazing line-up of speakers as we launch the latest edition of Parity, “The Future Starts Here: Re-imagining a Modern Youth Homelessness Strategy for Victoria” and preview the Victorian Youth Homelessness Assembly, happening later this month!

You’ll hear from:

  • Young lived experience advocates from Melbourne City Mission sharing their insights into the experience of youth homelessness and what they need in a response
  • The value of an Advantaged Thinking approach beyond Foyers, with Emma Dobson (Quantum Support Services), Steve Nidenko (wayss) and Simon Okely (For Change Co.)
