The Victorian Government’s Smile Squad is returning to Melbourne Zoo these school holidays, helping children build healthy habits while enjoying a day out.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Education Gabrielle Williams announced Smile Squad will visit the zoo on Wednesday, 23 September.
Children will receive free oral health advice and take-home dental packs.
Each pack includes a toothbrush, toothpaste and practical information to help families care for their children’s teeth.
Dental conditions are the leading cause of preventable hospital admissions for Victorian children under 10, making good habits and early care critical.
Smile Squad’s mobile teams have visited more than 1,000 government schools across Victoria, providing more than 175,000 students with free check-ups.
Children are offered check-ups, X-rays, cleaning, fluoride treatments, sealants, fillings and follow-up care – saving families around $400 per child.
Adults and children will be able to walk in without an appointment for free check-ups and treatment from dedicated oral health clinicians.
