About This Course
Welcome to the Supporting Renters Experiencing Family Violence eLearning course. This course provides an overview of the intersection between family violence and rental law in Victoria, and the key legal protections available to help renters in private residential tenancies who are experiencing family violence remain safely housed or transition to safer accommodation.
You will learn about the unique ways family violence can impact renters, how the Residential Tenancies Act 1997 (Vic) (RTA) can support renters affected by family violence, and the steps workers can take to help clients maintain safe and secure housing.
This course focuses on private residential tenancies governed by the RTA. While some protections may also apply in social or public housing contexts, this course does not cover the specific policies, procedures, or additional obligations that apply to social housing providers. Workers supporting clients in these settings may need to seek additional guidance.
This course was developed in partnership between Women’s Legal Service Victoria and Justice Connect, bringing together specialist family violence knowledge and tenancy law expertise to provide practical, legally accurate training for community workers.
We recommend allowing approximately 2 hours to complete this training.
