The SHS Learning Program offers live training sessions and self-paced eLearns to help you develop the skills and knowledge you need to achieve better outcomes supporting people without a home.

Supporting Youth in Distress: A Trauma-Informed Approach

Designed for Specialist Homelessness Sector practitioners, this session offers practical insights into applying trauma-informed practices when working with young people without a home.

Dates: 22nd & 24th October
Time: 9.30 am – 12:30 pm Both days

De-escalation & Responding to trauma-based behaviours

This training provides practical strategies for understanding and responding to challenging behaviours rooted in early trauma. Behaviours like aggression, withdrawal, substance use, and high distress can make engagement difficult and even dangerous. In this workshop, you’ll learn powerful, easy-to-apply, effective techniques.

Advanced Supervision and Leadership Skills

This advanced workshop aims to assist practitioners in understanding and exploring theoretical frameworks that underpin supervision and team management. It also includes building a congruent, enriched learning environment across the organisation through various structures.

Hoarding and Squalor

Note: new training session
This training equips you with the skills to navigate the complex issue of tenants who hoard. The course is structured into two key sections: understanding and responding. In the “Understanding” section, you’ll explore the various psychological, emotional, and practical reasons behind hoarding behaviours. The “Responding” section focuses on using proven, evidence-based strategies and tools to address these challenges effectively.

Specialist Homelessness Information Platform (SHIP)

These sessions explore the SHIP platform.
  • The SHS Basic webinars cover essential SHIP topics, including key SHS collection concepts and definitions, confidentiality and consent, an overview of SHIP, opening a support period, recording case notes, payments, and accommodation, status updates, and running an SHS extract.
  • This SHIP Advanced course is for leaders who have completed basic SHIP training and are proficient SHIP users.
